During the era pertaining to WWII, there emerged a group of Mexicans that were considered to be different and not well liked because of their style of clothing. These individuals were also involved in various gang activities mostly because they belived that they werre not treated fairely throughout this time. Because of their reputation any Mexican that was seem in that form of clothing was watched intensely, and every thing they did was considered to be an insult. The Great Depression was a enormous and destructive problem that faced citizens during the era of 1920's in America. The depression was caused by a number of problems. One of which was the country's lack of diversification. The American prosperity depended too much on industries, notably construction and automobiles, therefore causing a huge crash in the economy when these industries began to decline. Because of this, newer industries emerged, but had not yet developed strength to compensate for the declines in other sectors. This lack of diversification caused many citizens to become unemployed, causing a majority of Americans to look to the government for necessities such as food and clothes.

Women suffrage

During the era of 1900, progressive American women felt as though there must be a time for evolution in the way they are perceived, and their rights as American citizens. Even though the men of that era did not quite agree with such mentality, the women strive to provide a society in which they are viewed as equal and, their opinions and ideas are counted. In addition, a variety of middle class and upper class women formed groups and organizations in order to promote the thought that a woman should be able to vote and a woman should gain the opportunity to choose her profession or attend colleges or universities. These groups of women were known as club women. Even though problems of all sort develop mostly by traditional men, in the end the effort for providing a equal society for women was successful.

The Life of Andrew Carnegie

Andrew Carnegie is known to be one of America's wealthiest mogul in the steel industry.
Born on November 25, 1835 in Dunfermline Scotland, later moved to the United States with his family, prior to the economic crisis in his birth land. They settled in Allegheny near the city of Pittsburgh. He began working at the tender of twelve in a local cotton factory, and by the age of fourteen, he became a messenger boy for the Telegraph office of Pittsburgh.
Thomas Scott (superintendent of the western division Pennsylvania railroad) observed Carnegie's hard work and dedication promoting him to become secretary. At the beginning of the civil war both both Carnegie and Scott had to move to Washington. After the Civil War, Carnegie became more recognizable and succeeded Scott's position.
He later invested in several ventures, like Woodruff Sleeping Car Company and several small iron factories. Carnegie later drew his attention from iron and focused on steel realising that this could earn him major profits.
After spending time in england on various occasions observing the industry, he decided to form his own steel Compnay with the help from his chairman Henry Frick, who helped the business increased rapidly.
By 1892 the value of the Company was 25 million which made it the largest steel company in the world. The company continued to expand, and sadly so did conflict between carnegie and Frick. In 1901 frick purshased the company now valued 1.4 billion. While carnegie earned 225,000,000. Later on, Carnegie gave back in the building 3000 libaries and 380 in England. By the time he died in 1919, he had given away 350,000,000.

Myth vs Reality

For many years the west as been recognized because of old myths about cowboys. Hollywood emphasizes cowboys as romanticized characters. They make cowboys appear to be charming violent and sometimes evoke sex appeals towards women. Cowboys were always seen in western movies as heroes. They were always involved in some form of catastrophe but at the end of the day they were undefeated. In the western "young guns" i observed numerous cowboys at action, they always wore guns around their waist along with a triangular shaped hats and pointed boots. When looking at these boys thay seem so perfect. The kind of guy any young girl would be attracted to especially with their incrediblibe acent. But is hollywood's version of their perfect western men (known as cowboys) real, or are they just fictional charcters?

In the nineteenth century, cowboys were totally opposite from the myth of hollywood. They were seen as low-paid workers, at times very lonely, physical discomforts and relatively few opportunities for any advancements. They were not only caucasions but they were also mexicans and african americans. There were also numerous of cowgirls which weren't
as popular as the men. One of which was annie oakley.

A woman incharge of a plantation during the civil war

My husband did return from war safety. As soon has he returned he ordered to kill the slaves that were plotting to run away and burn down our plantation.

I wrote a letter informing my husband that slaves were angry because they were freed and he refused to let them go. Before the letter could reach to my husband, my faithful servant Margarette informed me that the slaves were planning to burn down the plantation. I was very afraid and so i stayed calm waiting patiently for my husband.

Today the 13th amendment was ratified freeing all slaves in the united states and its' territories. I am both surprised and angry. whenever my husband gets home he will certainly be extremely upset therefore i could receive a beating. He beats me whenever he his angry.

Wow! because of the civil war and the absence of my husband. many slaves took the chance of running away. early one morning i woke to find out that more than 45 slaves were missing off my plantation. i quickly summoned my guards and have them beaten and imprisoned until my husband return.

Since my husband was drafted in the war today i am left to manage the plantation until he return. Today is a good day the slaves are working so diligently on the field with little corresponding among themselves. All i will do today is write a letter to see how my dear husdand is during in that drastic war.

Slaves were bought at a very high price. They were basically in the feilds from the dawn of day until night. Northern slaves and Southern slaves were treated differently. Southern slaves were given clothes food and shelter by their owners. While in the North it was not so. In the mid 1800 when some slaves in the north becamed freed they were forbade to enter the southern regions. Slaves owners argued that, their slaves may be influenced and could therefore cause rebellion. Salves had no power at all except for the slves codes. Slaves codes consists of rules pertainng to the rights that a slave may have. forexample, slaves could walk at night without their masters permission, but in the court of law slaves could not testify aganist a white person but if attacked they were allowed to defend themselves. in the 1800's slaves were extremley important both social Political and economical.

Slavery in the South

Slavery was very dominant in the South. Working as slaves was the main reason why they were brought to the united states. Slavery was indeed the main part of life for southern states during the 1840 to 1860. Slave masters held pantations where they would capture slaves while forcing then to work so that the economy of the south would expand. During this time period cotton was known as being the main crop, and so therefore slaves would normally work extremley hard to keep the cotton industry alive. Slaves were basically consider as being nothing they had no right in politics, they werent given the right for receiving education so therefore they were uneducated. In the 1860s slavery wasn't as tense as before. Slaves were given certain opportunity although they were still faced with discrimination.

Andrew Jackson was known to be the hero of common man because he won the first man elected from tennessee to the house of representatives. he also served briefly in the senate. jackson was a major general in the war 1812, he became a national hero when he defeated the british at the new orleans on january 8, 1815. His army also won numerous victories. Andrew Jackson was the key president in determining the future direction of the U.S. and is considered one of the most constructive leaders in America's history. Though many thought that he used democracy to win the people over and use their support for other objectives, I believe that he really looked out for the common people, believed in them, and wanted to make sure that they had all of the rights and privileges that they deserved. Jackson knew that the Second Bank of the United States was too powerful and that it also had become corrupt. He also thought that it was only beneficial to the rich and not the poorer industrialists.
